Samantha R. is a versatile director, choreographer, performer and teaching artist with a BFA in Musical Theater from Temple University. Currently serving as the Artistic Director for Something Better Productions, Samantha's work spans notable New York venues such as 54 Below, AMT Theater, and the New York Theatre Festival. Their artistic approach blends traditional storytelling with innovative, bold interpretations, fostering new ways to experience classic works.
In addition to their theatrical expertise, Samantha is an accomplished musician, composer, and second-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do karate, a discipline that informs their grounded and focused artistic vision. With extensive experience both onstage and off, Samantha also brings a wealth of knowledge in production, having served as a Covid Safety Manager on Broadway productions like Paradise Square and Dear Evan Hansen. A member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), Dramatists Guild, Actor's Equity and Maestra Music, Samantha is passionate about creating inclusive, empathetic environments where creativity can thrive.
When not on stage, Samantha can be found teaching voice, piano, and ukulele, mentoring young performers, or crafting dynamic self-defense courses based on their martial arts expertise. Samantha’s teaching philosophy is centered on fostering an inclusive, empathetic, and dynamic learning environment where students are encouraged to explore and take risks. Whether teaching voice, piano, or acting, Samantha emphasizes the importance of technique, discipline, and self-expression. They believe in guiding students to find their unique voices and connect with their material on a deeper emotional level. Drawing from their martial arts background, Samantha instills values of focus, resilience, and balance—qualities essential for both personal and artistic growth. With a passion for lifelong learning, Samantha empowers students to develop the skills they need to succeed not only in their craft but in life.
